Ben Wilson from Eagle Brook Church

Ben Wilson kicks off his second SAM Session by answering for all Millenials (spoiler: he says they’re all individuals), but he also offers some great advice on how to lead a team of creative people. In fact, creativity is much discussed, so don’t miss it!

“Creatives Are A Finicky Species”

Creatives are a finicky species. Because creatives can be kind of crazy, and they want to work different, odd hours, and late into the night, and overnight, and they’re just kind of angsty, and they require a lot of individual care and attention to grow and be taken care of. So rather than looking at leading creatives like a madhouse, look at it like, you have brilliant people in front of you, and you just need to take the time to nurture and care for each one individual and help them grow so that you can get the best out of them.

“Harvest Ideas”

Ideation is certainly a strength that some people have and some people are weaker in. So naturally, the people who have the strength of ideation are going to be doing a lot of that work. I think a lot of times in leadership, we are looking for someone who has strong ideation and vision for the future, and those are good things. But, I think what is even more important is to be able to harvest ideas from a team of creative people.
